iAccounts 3.1 is a recommended upgrade, it fixes a few issues and introduces the new iPhone/iPad universal layout.
The upgrade process is designed to be smooth and to preserve your current database. Please upgrade also to the new iBackup 3.0 to take advantage of its new features. You can install iBackup 3.0 over your current installation of iBackup, there is no need to uninstall the existing software.
Following the upgrade of iAccounts, you'll need to update existing installations of iBackup, even if you upgraded to the most recent version 3.0. Please run the following procedure to complete the upgrade of the iBackup database:
It's that simple: backup, restore, backup again. You may notice record duplicates in iBackup after the first backup, don't worry it is part of the process, everything will get back in shape at step 3.
New, clean installations of iBackup do not need the above backup/restore/backup trick.
This new version of iBackup introduces a new, more contemporary layout and a refined Preferences menu. From Preferences you can set a master password for iBackup, a custom path for your data file and more.
iBackup 3 is a recommended update.
Please note that when you backup the first time after the upgrade to iAccounts 3.1 you may notice duplicates in iBackup. This is normal and is due to the new algorithms managing the sync process. To get rid of duplicates simply restore and then backup again. Yep, that simple: restore, then backup again. Duplicates disappeared. New, clean installations of iBackup will not exhibit duplicates.
Before the upgrade to the new iPhone iOS 5, make sure you install iBackup and run a backup of your iAccounts or DataTap data. Following the update you'll be able to easily restore your valuable data from iBackup, should the iTunes upgrade process ever wipe off your lovely apps (chances are it will not but why take chances?).
iBackup is already 100% compatible with Mac OS X 10.7 but there's a couple of recommendations:
Thousands of users manage their data with iBackup on OS X Lion every day and love it.
This new version of the app introduces a new, more efficient algorithms to manage the sync process. Old installations iBackup may exhibit record duplicates following a backup from the new iAccounts but we have prepared a simple, really simple and tested procedure to get you back on track:
Step one will detect that you're using an old version of iBackup and will clear-up duplicates for you.
New, clean installations of iBackup will not exhibit duplicates.
Follow this simple procedure:
Congratulations, you're now ready to roll! Hit the Backup button in the Synchronize screen to sync the apps.
Please note: for obvious security reasons, you need to a have a valid PIN set in iAccounts or DataTap to perform backup and restore. Tap on the padlock icon in your iPhone app to set the PIN/password if you haven't set it yet.
A timeout occurs when the iPhone cannot find the computer running iBackup on the wi-fi network. It is not an application-level issue, but rather a network configuration issue. Timeouts happen either when the iPhone and the backup computer are not logged onto the same wi-fi network or when a firewall or anti-virus running on the backup computer blocks incoming connections. Please try one the followings:
We also advise you to check iBackup's help menu and have a look at section Common error messages and solutions for a detailed explanation of the most frequent messages that may pop up. And, last but not least, please do not hesitate to get in touch with our support team if you need further assistance: we're here to help :-)
We have identified a number of applications that may lead to a timeout of running together with iBackup, Please quit any of the applications listed below if you see a timeout message following a backup or a restore operation and retry.
Finally, some users have reported Apple iTunes getting on the way when the iPhone USB cable is connected. In doubt, quit it and remove the USB cable. If anything fails, please get in touch and we'll sort it out together with you.
iBackup uses the CSV format for importing and exporting data. The format of the import file does differ between iAccounts and DataTap (the apps are different, therefore the format of the CSV import file is different), please make sure you refer to the iBackup on-line help menu for a detailed description of the import/export procedure as well as the respective formats of iAccounts and DataTap records.
Configure the same PIN in both iAccounts Lite and iAccounts on your iPhone, launch iBackup and run a backup of iAccounts Lite, then launch iAccounts and run a restore to import all groups and records. When iBackup asks for the PIN, you'll enter the one you just configured in both apps.
Configure the same PIN in both DataTapLite and DataTap apps on your iPhone, launch iBackup and run a backup of DataTap Lite, then launch DataTap "full" and run a restore to import all forms and records. When iBackup asks for the PIN, you'll enter the one you just configured in both apps.
On Microsoft Windows: launch the uninstaller.exe found at the installation path,
generally C:\Program Files\VenticentoStudio\iBackup
On Apple MacOS: drag the app in the bin.
The error is due to a small glitch in the Java multi-threading code of the application which updates
some elements of the user interface. We are actively working to solve this little issue,
in the meantime, to solve the error, simply select the app you're syncing with (iAccounts
or DataTap) in the application selector located in the iBackup toolbar, then
quit and restart iBackup and run a backup from the app on your iPhone.
We apologize for this small glitch and are working to solve it in the next coming release.
Status: fix is coming in next release, please contact support if you need further assistance.
Delete the iBackup data file and relaunch the app to create a new, empty one. Then backup at least once to pair your iPhone app. The path of the iBackup data file can be found in the iBackup Preferences dialog, in section Database.
